Cerronade Me

Thank you, Cliff Weber, for introducing Cerrone The Disco God to me and my ears. Below is my crucial song of the day- Take Me.

In memory

I don't know what more I can say about John Lennon because my heart overflows with love when there is even the slightest mention of him. Even today, the day he was murdered, the joy overwhelms the sorrow. There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be. His memory and destiny are sealed in the most positive of ways, and the man lived unapologetically by his own standards. I will learn from him always. Rest in Peace John Winston Ono Lennon. Real Love

These are my people

From their new album (to be released at the end of January) Teen Dream, Norway is a song by Beach House. You can thank Pitchfork for the bite. One of my favorite bands, I'm glad to see them branching out, even if in the teen[s]iest of ways.

Ey Big Guy

Wesley Willis was a 6'6 mass of rock & roll. Here is one of his best hits- Rock 'N Roll McDonalds.  He's a diagnosed schizophrenic and his music is bizarre and simple and hilarious. Enjoy.

Greatest Hats

Safety Dance - Men Without Hats. This is the album version so you get 5+ minutes of sweet synth. When this song comes on, you think maybe it's not as good as you remembered, but it always is. Let's face it, it makes you want to dance. These Canadians left us with quite a memorable one-hit wonder. And it will forever sound like 1983.

Magnum & gang

Neutral Milk Hotel, fronted by Jeff Magnum, is one of the best eclectic miracles to ever happen to music. King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1 is my pick, the first song from their 1998 masterpiece In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. The album's inspiration came from Magnum's trip to Amsterdam where he became fascinated with the Anne Frank story. Mixed with all kinds of instruments that you wouldn't expect go well together, the album is a beautiful recognition and interpretation of a nightmarish story.

No, no, no, I don't believe this song

Released with Crazy Horse in 1975, Zuma seems to be Neil Young's slightly forgotten album and it's full of gems. I took a drive to San Diego once and played it straight through, pleasantly surprised. Pardon My Heart is the song of the day and it's perfect for a lonely Thursday.

It's a fallen situation when all eyes are turned in.

Will Co.

I don't know why there are so many people in Wilco, it's like some kind of circus: Jeff Tweedy and his Amazing Dancing Bears! but they're a good little band so I won't harp on it anymore. Impossible Germany is from their 2007 album Sky Blue Sky and it's a good little song. The guitar work at the end especially makes it.

Take it Away, Rosie

When listening to Come On-A My House sung by Rosemary Clooney (w&m Ross Bagdasarian and William Saroyan), you can't help but think of the witch luring Hansel & Gretel into her house; but it's a seductive witch and I think she only wants Hansel after he turns 18. I mean, she wants to give him "candy" (and it's a helluva lot better than that Mandy Moore pre-teen candy...song). Initially, Rosemary didn't even like the record, but her boss at Columbia said record it or you're fired. The rest be history.
