Lord, he could dance

My namesake in some circles (the email circle), Mr. Bojangles is a song written by Jerry Jeff Walker in 1968. I love this version sung by Sammy Davis Jr.

"Magic moments," pursed lips reply.

Two songs for you folks: Magic Moments and Pursed Lips Reply. The first is in the film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (represented well in that montage) and is sung by Perry Como. Paging Dr. Gonzo. Secondly, Daedelus' track from Invention is a spiffy little number with a romantic sampling of something that sounds like it's out of the 40's or 50's. Cheerio, chaps.

thick sick lick

Splashdown with Breakwater's Release the Beast. What a SICK track from 1980. Wait a minute, 1980? I thought it was more recent than that...OH! Hey, Daft Punk, excellent job stealing. Mark Twain would be proud. Check out the Breakwater sample as it appears in Robot Rock. By the way, that picture of Breakwater in the yellow boots may be their only photo in existence.

I mean, I just can't help myself

When certain songs come on my iTunes or iPod, I can't help but gush about them. Right now I'm having the pleasure of remembering John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band's Do The Oz (the anthology version). The song originally appeared on Plastic Ono Band, the album. Plastic Ono Band is the conceptual supergroup invented by Lennon/Ono. They are thee grrrrrrreatest. Love & music = magic

Healthy Choice

Grooveshark is the best. Here is my personal endorsement of Grooveshark. They rule. When I can't find a song anywhere else, it always turns up on Grooveshark. I'm gonna start looking there first. And you can make playlists. It's really sweet. SO, here's the song of the day: He Really Needs Me by Jon Brion. It's the slow, punchy tack piano creation (reworked from a song in Popeye) that plays while the credits roll for Punch-Drunk Love. Thanks for everything, Jon Brion.

"It really looks like Hawaii here."

If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis

I am a Beatlehead. A fanatic. A nut. I have to refrain myself from mentioning them in every breath. But Ringo, please, for the love of God, stop releasing music. Especially half-baked albums called "Y Not." Your solo work has hardly ever been tolerable. You were a wonderful drummer. Your day has passed. Just leave it at that.

The song of the day is from Ringo Starr's latest album, "Y Not." GOTCHA! It's da baste for a Saturday afternoon/Saturday night transition: Bitches. Brew. [Disc 2]. Here's Miles Davis with Miles Runs The Voodoo Down.

Oh me, oh my

Banjolele extraordinaire, George Formby has a cheery tune for your rainy day. It may be pouring cats and dogs, but George is gayly Leaning On A Lamp Post anyway.

Harmony

Who knows how to doo wop? Nikki & Rich know how to doo wop! And it's certainly no game of Cat and Mouse. Or maybe it is? Between The Supremes and Outkast. Yes, they keep the style alive and, even better, they're squeezing it into the mainstream. Don't let doo wop die!

i'm on a pc aka i've forgotten how to save pics and don't want to waste my time figuring out how. check out their good-lookin' show at the Viper Room.

A resounding HUZZAH!

Oh how I love me some lo-fi, so imagine my delight at finding this lo-fi, experimental, sampling husband/wife duo: Clarque and Caroline Blomquist (also known as Waumiss). The album "was recorded on a Tascam 488 cassette Portastudio and a primitive Roland MS-1 sampler" (no citation needed). Listen to songs on their myspace, or specifically, Tummy Aches. Also, here is their video for Nightengale. I'm gonna bet these are cat people.
